Meet your Instructor

Dr. Arzu Ari holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy, focusing on Higher Education Administration from Georgia State University (GSU). Her background is diverse, with undergraduate degrees in Physical Therapy and Respiratory Care and master's degrees in Public Health and Allied Health. Her scholarship merited tenure at both GSU and Texas State University (TXST).
In 2024, Dr. Ari received the Forest Bird Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award from the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) and the Mariel Muir Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring from TXST. In 2023, she was honored with the Regent’s Professor Award from the Texas State University System Board of Regents. Recognized for her significant contributions to research, teaching, and service in Pulmonary Medicine and Respiratory Care, she is a Fellow of both the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and the American Association for Respiratory Care (FAARC).
Currently, Dr. Ari serves as a Regent’s Professor and Associate Dean for Research at TXST. She also directs the International Education Recognition System.
Since joining academia in 2001, Dr. Ari has published 93 peer-reviewed articles, 85 conference proceedings, 17 book chapters, 2 clinical practice guidelines, and 2 books. She has delivered 342 presentations at 145 conferences worldwide and has received 36 awards and 16 grants, securing at least one grant every year for the past 14 years.
Her primary research focus is Aerosol Medicine, leading to four key developments with a global impact on aerosol drug delivery for patients with pulmonary diseases:
1. Helping clinicians understand current practices of aerosol drug therapy.
2. Identifying best practices for aerosol drug delivery, not only in spontaneously breathing patients but also in critical care settings.
3. Evaluating the performance of aerosol delivery devices to optimize inhaled drug delivery in patients with respiratory disorders.
4. Generating new concepts and methods that enhance aerosol drug delivery to adults, pediatrics, infants, and newborns.
With 25 years of experience in basic, translational, and clinical research, Dr. Ari has successfully brought together experts from pharmaceutical, aerosol, and respiratory care fields to support innovative research, build consensus, and advance the field.
She is the first author of the book "A Guide to Aerosol Delivery Devices for Respiratory Therapists, 2nd Edition." With over 3 million downloads worldwide, the book has been translated into Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Turkish, and Arabic.
Dr. Ari’s research impact is evident through her H-index of 31 and 3,369 citations. She consistently publishes in leading journals. Her work has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Monaghan Award for Aerosol Technique Development (three-time recipient), the Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship, the Mitchell Baran Achievement Award for Clinical Excellence in Aerosol Therapy, and the H. Garza Achievement Award for Excellence in International Respiratory Care. She is an Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal for Respiratory Care, a Guest Editor for Pharmaceutics, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Aerosol Medicine.
