An introductory course designed to give the student a fundamental understanding of the creation and appreciation of diverse modes of expression through the visual and performing arts. This course may not be repeated for credit by taking MU 2313, TH 2313, or DAN 2313.

Course Information: 

  • Structure
    • 12 modules
    • Required work: readings, module exams, and a critical review.
    • Students may not complete more than 2 modules per week.
  • Course materials:
    • This course uses Open Educational Resources (OER) materials, which are free of cost to students.
    • Recommended textbook (not required): 
      • Dennis J. Sporre, The Creative Impulse, Introduction to the Arts, Eighth Edition, 2008 (or more recent version). 
        • As of August 2025, the cost of the recommended textbook is $298.85 for a new textbook. Used copies of the textbook may also be available at significantly less expense. Please ensure you purchase the correct edition and ISBN for the recommended textbook.
