About the Program
Texas State University Continuing Education offers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) training program at the Round Rock Campus. This in-person program is built for working adults who need a flexible schedule that fits around their career, family, and personal life.
The CCMA program includes 96 hours of classroom instruction, hands-on skills practice, and independent study. Students are also eligible to complete an 80-hour externship at a local clinic, doctor's office, or hospital to gain real-world experience before sitting for the NHA certification exam.
The externship provides valuable workplace exposure and can serve as a professional reference when entering the job market. Upon completing both the coursework and externship, students receive a Certificate of Completion from Texas State Continuing Education.
As an added value, graduates are also eligible to test for two additional credentials: the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and the EKG Technician (CET) certifications.

Testimonial
“Joining the Clinical Medical Assistant program at Texas State was truly one of the best choices I’ve made for myself. Trying to balance full-time work and school wasn’t always easy, but the support I felt from my instructors and classmates made such a difference. The hands-on training didn’t just teach me clinical skills, it helped me build confidence and reminded me why I’m passionate about healthcare in the first place. The instructors were amazing professors and made sure to prepare us for real world experiences. Throughout the program, I discovered a real interest in emergency and acute care, and now I feel more prepared and excited than ever to continue my journey in the trauma orthopedics specialty.”
